Sounds like the charge coil has shorted.. This is something that the shop should have caught back in July when you had it in for electrical problems,or is this something that happened recently?? Plenty of stators on ebay.2005 Sportsman 500 stator | eBay

 

No they mentioned it needed a new battery. I believe it was bad stator you think when they put ecm in they would take 2 seconds to meter the yellow wired especially since they put in a new harness at that time. Is this behind flywheel...the stator and is it easy to replace.

 

Have to pull the recoil housing and the flywheel to replace the stator. Here's a video on replacing a stator on a 700. Flywheel pulling is basically the same. You need a good harmonic balancer puller or a tough steering wheel puller. You can "borrow" these at most auto stores. Look at about the 3:40 mark.

 

Hey old man thx for the help. The stator you posted is it ok to use hearing that the Chinese ones are junk stick with oem. What do you think. Also there is a used one oem just below the link you gave me is it a better option????

 

Don't like used parts,but supposedly has a 30 day warranty.. A lot of what you find is Chinese now days,but I do trust stators from Ricks. Higher priced,but dependable. They have new and rebuilt stators.Stator Aftermarket Parts & Custom Stator Rebuilds

 

My atv bogs down after a few seconds of Idle. As soon as I throttle up it bogs really bad... Funny thing. I can pull in my brake lever and it runs a bit better, or at least it revs up a lot better. But it spits and pops some...Also, I noticed the key position turned to the lights on position gives it more power too. I mean a noticeable difference... Very strange to me.

The carb was rebuilt a few weeks ago. The battery doesn't look very old. The test said it was at full charge and "good"

Hey I am having problems with my 05 sportsman 500. Bike idles great, starts up no problem. When I go to accelerate as I give throttle the bike bogs/cuts out. When I get to full throttle it opens up and works good but anywhere in between I get the issue. Sometimes as I let off the throttle slowing down it will die. I changed air filter, spark plugs, new gas, checked carb, adjusted valves. Not sure where I should start looking next?
