Default Sportsman 500 Crank Sprocket Shim

Working on a 2013 Sportsman 500, the owner brought it over after someone unsuccessfully tried to repair the engine. I replaced the broken crank sprocket, cam sprocket, and chain. However, there was no shim installed behind the crank sprocket, not sure if there needs to be one, noticed there are several sizes available according to OEM diagrams. Cannot locate how to measure which shim is needed. Does anyone have any information on this? Item #15 in the below picture.
