Default Electric start help!!

I have a 1986 polaris trailboss 250... when i first got it the elec start was working fine deff was trying to turn over.. after a little while everytime i tried using it it lost power and now it just clicks.. i replaced the battery and nothing.. both batteries have plenty of juice... could it be the stator or solenoid?

Jump the solenoid posts and see if the starter works. If it doesn't I'd replace the starter and (bendix) gear shaft) Sounds like the solenoid is getting power since it clicks, but you can test to make sure with a test light or meter on the starter cable leading from the solenoid. Make sure you have good connections on it and the starter. If the starter is the problem, here's cheap place to get them.https://www.dbelectrical.com/starter...v/polaris/250/ Plus ebay or amazon. https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Starter...xZuM7W&vxp=mtr

Different style cables on the 89 and up.Mainly on the throttle ends. The 7080298 cable is basically NLA in most places, but there are some places that really charge you if they have some NOS parts like this hanging around. Weren't cheap to begin with years back on split cables, but prices go up when you're the only game in town so to speak..Here's the only two I've found and you probably wont like the prices.https://www.motosport.com/oem-parts/part-number/7080298

Is there someplace that could fabricate a new cable if they knew the dimensions? It seems like I saw something like that once.

These old bulbous tanks were part of the problem along with the different throttle housings. Motion pro is one place that could possibly make one,but cost might be close to the oem?https://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/custom/ Did find a scooter cable for 18 bucks that could be adapted I suppose with the right adapers.62" Split Throttle Cable : Monster Scooter Parts Plus several places online for adapters and kits.https://www.motionpro.com/product/01-0055 Some people have just blocked off the oil pump and went to a single cable that they could match up length with to make things easier.

Possibly it'd work. Lot of old cheap throttle housings on ebay, plus a new split cable for them is around 23 bucks.Oil pump connection isn't a problem as that hasn't ever changed and you could do away with the etc switch wiring for your 86 model. This one is 22 bucks on ebay.
