I need to get the right rear drive shaft off my 98' sportsman 500.I have taken the wheel off and the a- arms loose but I can't get the yoke
to come off the splined shaft.I have backed the screw out that holds the yoke to the splined shaft.I have pried and beaten my knuckles
to death and would appreciate anyone's input a lot.Do they make some kind of puller that would get that thing off? Thanks.

After removing that bolt, you should be able to just pull the shaft out of the tranny. That is what the repair manual says anyway.

You probably don't have it completely disconnected. The spacer (#10 in this diagram 98 SP500 rear driveshaft) attaches both axles together inside the gearbox. Sometimes the side you loosen is not really loosening, just spinning the other axle's bolt. You may have to put a backup wrench on the other side to actually get the bolts loose. In order for the bolt to come completely loose, one side or the other's yoke is going to have to be pulled out some as the bolt is longer than the space provided to work with in the yoke.

they can be a pain in the ***. espesily if it has been on there for a while. you might have to take a air hammer to it. or if you don't have one a lage punch with a good sized hammer. but whatever you do don't just use a hammer on the end of the splined you will mushrum it and then good luck getting the bolt back on.
