Default 250 Trailblazer Starter

Has anybody ever had a starter go out?
It will start and run when the pull start is used, but when the starter button is pushed it just makes a whirring noise and doesn't turn the engine over.
I've replaced the battery and checked all the wiring, only thing left is the starter right?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It seems that all the polaris two strokes eventually have problems, especially if you go in alot of water. It could be alot of things. the starter bendix goes, also the brushes need to be replaced now and then. Best thing is to take it off and take it apart. You can buy rebuild kits for these I have seen them on ebay. Good luck.

How do you get to the starter motor?

Thanks,

to get to the starter you have to pull the bottom skid plate off and the side cover on the recoil side, the cover that bolts onto the cases.. not the recoil cover, now on the inside of the case there are 2 bolts that hold the starter in, and a mounting tab on the back, on the tab take out the bolt and bend it back, next loosen the hot wire now you should be able to pull the starter out, might have to use some light persuasion but they will come out.

To make it easier I would like turn your gas off and lift the quad straight up , then you have a lot better access to the bottom.

I've had to do this a alot recently. The bendix is stuck, the motor is fine. you will need to pull the side cover off (about 6 10mm bolts) and clean and grease the "bendix" or engagement gear. If it is rusted badly it will need to be replaced. The reason this is a problem is that the side cover is installed with no gasket from the factory and will take on water eventually. Make sure to use a good gasket sealer when you put it back together.

This is where alot of people have problems with the starter going out. If you go in ANY deep water, anything above the tires you have to drain the starter caseing. There is a drain on the bottom just for that reason. If you dont drain it the water will sit in the caseing and will start to rust and ruin the brushes in the starter. If you do this it will last alot longer.
