Default Sportsman 600 leaking antifreeze

My 600 seems to want to drip anti-freeze from the lower right side after it is warmed up. It seems to be coming from the area around where the lower coolant hose enters the block. I can not find a hole in the hose, but there is a gasket under a cover on that side and I'm wondering if any one has any similar experience. How hard is it to replace this gasket? What could cause this problem? My bike has about 350 miles on it and it is about 3 months old. I can't see any area where a stick jammed in there.

Also, on occasion, my fan will not kick in right away. I've noticed this just recently. My bike will heat up and the coolant light will flash on my guage pod. I'll shut it down, and then take it out and open it up a bit and then the fan will kick in. Any ideas?

Thanks for any and all responses.

Have you been in the mud where it could of gotten in the coolant by the overflow and killed your water pump?

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago. There is a small 1/4" weep hole behind the gasket you mentioned. If water is coming out of there the mechanical seal is defective. Since you are under warranty yet they should fix it. Mine was not and cost 72 $ to repair. It takes a special puller to get the seal out. There was a post on it a couple weeks ago that explains it further do a search for coolant or overheating under Polaris.

It sounds like the water pump seal for sure. In the past I've had a 98 SP 500, and now I have a 01 SP HO both have had mechanical water pump seal failures. I chose to buy the special puller tool but the insertion tool I made out of a few pipe fittings.
Somewhere in the forum I posted 2 modifications explaining how to reduce the risk of another failure.

I have had cooling problems as well. One other place u need to look at is the uper hose on the left side of the bike. The SP600/700 top hoses are ran so close to the frame of the bike, that after course of time, the bike is cutting through the hose. I have already had this happen to me while I was on the trail. I was lucky enough to hear the hissing before I over headed the bike. After replaceing the hose, I keep an eye on that area now a little closer. I have found it trying to happen again, and their is realy no way to pull the hose back from the frame.

Hope this is helpfull.

Traildog, Have you tried using any material to shield the hose? maybe a piece of alum sheet metal and a couple of hose clamps. I'll have to take a peek at mine and see if it's rubbing also, thanks for the warning!

Polairs installs a piece of plastic hose that covers the ruber hose from the factory. Don't be foold by this, because when my hose got cut, it cut through the protective plastic and the rubber hose! I have taken some tie straps, and have made an attempt to tie the radiator hose to some smaller hoses towards the middle of the bike. This has helped some, but their is so little play in the factory hose, you can only pull it away so far. I looked to see if I could reroute it, but again, they made this hose exactly the length it needs to be for a straight shot to the engine. I have been meaning to try put a more protective covering around it, but I keep on forgetting. I will try to look at it again this weekend. Guess I will remember when it cuts it again! lol

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I'll take it back to my dealer as it sounds like you need special tools to do the job. I thought if it is a $5.00 gasket and a few bolts, I could save myself the trip.

I just cut a piece of 5/8" heater hose, split it down the side, and zip-tied it to the frame in the spot that the radiator hose rubs. No more problems.
