I have asked myself this question for the past two years... Why the heck don't those magazines run the Xplorer in the shoot-outs against the SP500, Magnum and other big-bore 4-strokes? Is the Xplorer not faster and somewhat better in performance? Is it not better priced? I think it's because the magazines go for the 4-stoke quads and pit them against mainly honda's/yama's too. What do all of you think? I sure would love to see an objective shoot-out between an Xplorer, a Magnum, an Xpedition and a Sportsman!! That would be wild!

4 Wheel ATV Action did a shootout not too long ago between a 2000 Xplorer 400, Kodiak 400, and a Prairie 400. The Prairie came in third, Xplorer 2nd, and the Kodiak won, but they did say it was extremely close between the three and the only thing the Yamaha had over the Xplorer was better fit and finish. The Xplorer 400 is probably the fastest utility quad on the market, but with the environmentalists and the emissions laws we must wonder how much longer Polaris will keep the 400 two stroke motor in their lineup.

Depends where you live, up here there are 20 snowmobiles to every single quad so outlawing 2 stroke bikes would not make much differance to the enviroment.

I did'nt see the shoot out your talking about. After owning both the 99 Sportsman and the 00 Xplorer,I would love to see a shoot out between the 2 also. The Sportsman will probably out pull the Xplorer, and it has a plusher ride.

The Xplorer is faster is every phase, will out mud it,is a better hill climber, has much better throttle response, and is alot[110LBS] lighter and more nimble.Of course these are just my early predictions, perhaps im wrong. What cha think?====BILL

Most people shy away from 2-strokes for utility or 4x4 use. A lot of people don't even consider the Xplorers because of that.

I like them. It's the only 4x4 or utility quad I have seen climb as well or spin the tires as easy as a Scrambler.

I went to an ATV pull and the 400 Explorer out pulled ever machine there, except the 400 6x6. That is proof enough for me that the 400 2 stoke is by far the best machine. I have a '96 sportsman 400 and went up against my buddy's 2000 Sportsman 500. I walked all over him in every aspect. I tried to tell him before he bought the 500, to buy a 400. He didn't listen, and now he regrets it. I can hardly get him to ride with me aymore, cuz he feels powerless against my 400.
Nothing will change my mind, 2 strokes ROCK!

Why you ask...... tell me if you owned a quad mag that depended on advertising dollars from all the suppliers would you say the truth that the explorer 400 is the best in all ways? Fit and finish my ***. I will put my 96 sportsman 400 against anything
