My brother's snapped on his SC400 on his third ride on it. It busted up the trans case pretty bad. Luckily it was under warranty.

GriffBurger:
I have XC rear and XCT front. I think they look and perform well depending on the terrain.

Jad:
I fixed it with JB Weld. First I drained all the transmission oil (what was left anyway), then cleaned up the area with the hole real good with a little wire wheel. Next I plugged hole, and washed the area. After dried well, I stuck a few coats of JB Weld on it and smoothed it out, and allowed it dry good before installing the transmission back in the quad. Then it was off to Shiloh Ridge!

I think it cost way to much for a new transmission just for a hole. You could try JB Weld and if it doesn't work for you, but I don't know why it wouldn't, then maybe look at having it welded and last resort getting a new transmisison. If he buys a new tranny, tell him to buy an Xplorer 400 so that he can have the high/low range. I bet they are similar in cost.

Mudmachine:
See you in the mud! Just a few weeks now...

I have a 00 Scrambler 500 and have broke the chain. The chain was adjusted correctly. The dealer replaced no problem. I called Polaris and asked if this is a on going problem. they replied that it is not and the only way to break a chain is get something stuck in it(like a piece of wood). What a goof. Since then the chain case has cracked and has been at the dealer for three weeks waiting for a new one. My friend rides a 400 a guess what, cracked chain case. Second ride. I feel that polaris has a big problem in these two areas. What happens when the warranty is gone?

Maybe you and your friends are just unlucky. But then again, maybe I and the ones I have listed below are just lucky. I have a 2000 Polaris Trail Blazer, 3 of my friends have Scrambler 400's, ones a 2000, ones a 99, and the other a 98 model. My step dad has a 92 350L 4x4 (chains to the front and rear drive), Mom has a 95 Trail Boss, and soon-to-be brother in law has a 2000 Trail Boss. None of use have had any problems with chains breaking or cases cracking. In fact, of all of us, the only to ever have a problem was my step dad with his 92 350L. He did some work on a front hub. But keep in mind this machine has seen way, way more miles then the adverage ATV. Most of it pulling wood and plowing.
Also, my real father has a 96 Sportsman, no problems.
But by reading many post, lots of them by non-Polaris owners, I think maybe we are doing something wrong. I just don't understand why we have never had any problems. I thought that because they were Polaris machines, they were supposed to be at the dealer every other week. Oh well.

Had to have the chain on my 2000 Xplorer 250 4x4 replaced under warranty and a couple hundred miles later it was making the same noise, I traded it in on a 2000 Sportsman 500. But I don;t think it is just a Polaris chain issue my Warrior , the chain was always messed up. I was always screwing with it.
