Default looking at 02 Sportsman 500

I posted this message in the 'buying' forum, but I thought maybe this might be a better place to ask...

I'm new to the 4-wheel ATV world (I did own a 84 Honda Big Red back in the 80's) and I'm looking to buy a 'newer' used ATV. I've run across a 02 Sportsman 500 for $4700. It's got 440 miles and appears to be in great condition. Does this price seem fair? Any known problems with the 02 Sportsmans that I should be aware of?

Thanks.

On my 02 had the mechanical seal go bad in the water pump and a loose lower left ball joint. Have about 700 miles on it. Otherwise good machine.

my friend has an 02 polaris 500 h.o and hes never had a problem with his polaris. the polaris has the best ride with the best all wheel drive system!!! it sounds like you have ran across a really good deal! if he has took it in on regular oil changes and lubes every 200 miles it should have been taking in on its second change!!! you got your self a steal considering if you buy one new it will be bout 6399!!!

Thanks for your responses...

I just ran across another one - it's an '03 with 29 miles. Basically brand new, plus it has a 3 yr extended warranty. He's asking $5500. Would you guys spend the extra $800 for this newer bike?

Is it possible to buy a warranty on a used bike? If so, I might be better off getting the '02.

Thanks again.

How much does he want for a 04 500 Sp.????
You are going to have to weigh that out also, as $800.00 more than the 02 and I think only 800 more for a 04...ECT...ECT...

Your dealer might offer a extended or some type of warrenty, as Polaris only offers 6 month warrenty when buying new...
