Default Should I put the stock belt back in?????

I'm bored...sooooo. I got to thinkin. I have a big trip planned this weekend. I just replaced a bunch of stuff and plan on riding on a long trip, so I dont want anything to go wrong. When I did my mods, I put a 700 belt in(at that time the new spliceless belts for the 500's were not out yet). Now, I haven't had any problems with it nor have I had any slippage. I had an almost new stock belt in it before. That belt has slipped on me a few times. I have heard that the 700 belt can cause some problems so I am wondering if I should keep it, replace it with my old one, or get a new spliceless belt tomorrow? What do you clutching guru's think???? Also, is it safe to cleam my clutches with brake cleaner? And, is there any tips in putting in a new cover seal, I think it is time to replace my old one.

I would go back with the stock belt, I have heard way too many bad things about the 700 belt. The cover seal is easy, just slip it into the groove. You can clean your clutches with anything that will not leave a film or residue, like contact cleaner.

Thanks NC. I am going to be out near the dealer today, so I think that I will pick up a stock SPLICELESS belt and seal. I don't like the one that was in there. It slipped way to easliy. The 700 belt NEVER slipped, even after getting it wet. I guess that is because of the stronger spliceless design???

That could be it, but it could possibly be that the 700 belt has slight angle differences than the stocker, which is what makes it bad for the 500 clutches, it would wear them out quick. I also think the width may be a little different, but I could be wrong. There is another forum I go to and they are all going back to the 500 belt.
