Chain Broke on 99 Scrambler 4x4
#1
I was riding pretty hard this past weekend and about 1 mile from home the master link broke in my chain. Luckily I could use the front wheels to get home, but it was one heck of a ride. Has anyone else broke a master link? I purchased a new change and 2 extra master links - you guys may want to do the same. Does anyone have any tricks to pressing on the master link? Thanks.

Two weeks ago my friend on a 99 scambler 400 broke his chain but not the master link. The link broke in three pieces then the chain ripped a hole in the chaincase fluid all over. I heard that the Regina chains were real good chains but after seeing that, talking to people on the trails, and what is said here I am starting to wonder if I should get mine off before it happens to me.

I have 00 500 Scrambler and have broke the master link also. They replaced it under warranty, but you have to wonder why this is happening. The stock chain seems to be heavy enough. I ride my motorcross bike alot harder and never any problems. Polaris told me that the only way that a chain can break is if you get something caught in the chain. Good answer, sounds like they are covering there a$$.

Thanks for the tips guys. I am glad I am not the only one having this problem. I wonder if they make a case guard to protect the crank case from breaking if a chain goes through it. This happened to a friend of mine who has a warrior. Thanks.

I also have a 99 Scrambler and broke my chain, drove home 8 miles on the fronts!!
I will say one thing Polaris stock chains are JUNK!! The tensile strength on those chains I think is somewhere around 4200 to 4500 tensile strength, well here is what you do, grab a dirt wheels magazine or whatever and order a D.I.D 520 X-Ring it's tensile strength is 8400 and it is one heck of a chain. It feels so much better than that of the stock. I have done three times as many jumps and landed harder and still that baby hasnt even stretched!!
Chuck (99 Scrambler, DynoPort Pipe, ITP Holeshots on Douglas .190's, DID 520 X-Ring Chain, K&N, and a bunch of chrome stuff!!)
PS. I will have a web page built soon for the East Brady ATV Club, I will post here when it is up!

He is right, go for a DID chain.
Stick the clip on backwards like mudmachine said. When pressin the plate on, make sure you don't accidently press the pins through too.
I always keep spare master links handy, and have used a few already.
