Default AAEN over HPD

Well I made the change. I went with the AAEN stage 5 kit. I have to tell you all that I am more pleased with the AAEN stuff over HPD. Fit,finish and quality is top notch. I was even able to beat my local Polaris dealers 250 race mod. It was not as quick off the line like the race mod but mine pulled very hard and was easily able to pass the race mod. I was very impressed with the performance gains over my old hpd set up. It was very easy to tune and runs alot smoother and quieter than the HPD setup. I was taking a big chance changing my setup but am really impressed. The AAEN setup is 42hp complete over the 38 hp HPD race mod. This is without a reed cage setup. I changed to a top end pipe, aaen clutch kit,ported,milled,38mm tmx carb. Everything cost me around $800. The HPD race mod is $1400. Savings well spent and best of all I sold all my HPD parts to a friend for about what I paid for it. So no money out of my pocket and a much better ride. A#1 to AAEN!!!

Glad to see that you are having better luck with your new setup.
I think that you are off on your quote on HPD's race mod price.
Its about $810.00 the $1400.00 is for the reed conversion package.
And just to let you all know and maybe brag alittle, my reed converted
250 is running a hair faster in a 100 yd drag than my brothers trail
ported 400 scrambler.
Sorry bro, I jusy had to spill the beans!!

I'll back Talon up on that one, after watching some of the testing drags, that reed conversion 250 sure is a screamer. Great folks at both places.

have to agree, i enjoy my stage V kit from aaen on my 02 500 scrambler, esp. since i put a tranny with low range into it.

I was meaning that the non reed conversion race mod was 800 and I can beat it easily. I have not raced a 400 yet but I figure with 42hp I should be able to beat it. I also think the quality and fit was much better with aaen. My HPD pipe hit the motor and was much noisier. The welds had spatter and the paint did not take well. The aaen pipe is very smooth,no spatter and fit absolutely perfect.

well i was going to go with hpd's setup on my scrambler 400 but after reading this post,im not sure.the hpd trail pipe makes about 5-6 hundred more rpm's over the aaen topend pipe, but if the guality of the aaen pipe is better id rather have that.the fmf pipe i have now is rubbing my motor also, you say the aaen doesnt hit the motor?im wondering if the hpd pipe will?i still think ill go with hpd motor mods
seeing as how they make just as much hp as the aaen bigbore kits and thats with no boring..would it be ok to go with a aaen pipe and clutch kit with hpd engine mods?im so confused on what to do..

I wouldn't go with mixing company's like that. I have the HPD/RcR trail mod and it screams. I have had no problems what so ever with my pipe rubbing my motor. I think that the quality of the pipe is top rate. No complaints at all.
One thing that I would recommend is to go ahead and go with the complete clutch kit if you do any porting or major motor work. The upshift and backshift was not very good and was driving me crazy. Now with the Team Secondary roller with matching drive clutching it's all smiles.

I raced a stock 400 today just to see how my new setup works and I beat it by about 4 quad lengths. My last setup was about even.
