I got one of those starter gears for my scrambler, its been in for over a year. No problems so far. I rebuilt my starter with one of those kits on ebay, cheaper than a new one.

hey the cheapest way to go is to get your starter rebuilt

everything that is good stays everythiong bad gets replaced and it will only cost 50 to 150

I know about rebuilding starters!Mine is apart right now but inneed of the houseing that the armature goes in it has some bad gouges. I would be intersest in an old starter whit a bad armature if the housing is good.

In my experience, Polaris makes very crappy starters. Everyone that I know personally that owns a Polaris (including myself) has had a problem with them. The solenoid in my TB is screwed up, and I don't have the knowlege or the resources to replace it, so now I just use the pull start on it.

I have put several of the aftermarket starters on the 2 stroke polaris' and have had no complaints on them. The only thing "crappy" I can find with the polaris starters vs other makes of quads is on the 2 strokes where the starter is mounted at the bottom of the crankcase - they tend to sit in water which eats up the splines on the armature shaft.

If there is no problem with the splines on the armature shaft, and the armature windings are OK, the best thing to do is "rebuild" the starter with a brush and bearing kit. Just replacing the brushes is only a temporary fix. You can get the starter rebuilt at www.stockers.com, including rewinding the armature, as long as the armature splines are good.
