COMET CLUTCH
#2
I've had one for about 6 months....just haven't had the dog gone time to test it. Comet shipped out a different spring and wts. Now that winter is bearing down on us, it might not be til next spring. I know Wolf bros racing helped in the development, and Aaen has played a bit with one....I need a wheelie bar before I'm gonna launch with that unit. The Team Industries secondary, along with some larger ITP Spider Tracs gave the Sport a bad habbit of sitting up on the grab bar. I bought one for my '99 500 scrambler. The pink spring had 2500-2800 rpm engagement. Way to high. The black spring in it now is about 2000-2200 rpm. I think it is still to high. I rode my buddys stock 2000 scrambler and it engages smooth and at low rpm. If my stocker didnt have a super deep groove in it I would have left it alone. Comet was cheaper than polaris. I may try yet another different spring or maybe weights but after all the money spent I may have been better off with stock. I was looking for a performance advantage and I didnt find it. I understand that the pulley diameter is larger for a higher top speed but how fast can you go in the trails. Just my .02 worth.

I have one of the first ones they built. I had to modify it to use the larger diameter, but it is a good clutch. the sheaves hit tpgether in the bottom befor the belt gets to the top,so without modifying the faces, there is no more overdrive than a P90. The belt side gap is too much, and can be adjusted with nylon shims under the center bolt to adjust engagement. Some don't like the high engagement, but with the shims, you have nice flexibility. It is a good racing clutch because of that flexibility. It will also accept snowmobile flyweights, without having to use a spacer. I wish it had an aluminum cover instead of steel.

i got one of the first available here in canada,i had about a month to test it so far,,,they tend to overdrive quickly,,,but it's a torque monster clutch on the bottom end,it really grab the gear and get the power to the ground,,but they're a lot of time to fine tune them as the powerband is wider and wider til full throttle.
