Default sportsman 700 shifting difficulty

I received my new 04.5 sportsman today. It is diffucult to shift from Park, Rev, etc.... I have the foot brake engaged. Is there an adjustment to the gearbox or will this loosen up with use. I just don't want to mess things up on day 1.
Thanks in advance.

my '04 700 Mossy-Oak did the same thing.

i brought it back to the Dealer. they took something apart in the shifter, where some fluid is, and changed the fluid.

thing has been perfect ever since.

not a dumb question at all!

i kinda wonder the same thing. i don't know.

it was warranty work, no charge, and the thing shifts great now!

i'm not that good fixing things....i like maintenance free stuff.......and that's why i ride POLARIS!

Only one of our Sportsmans (04 SP 700) did that. Was not that bad, but just not as smooth as the others. So, I lubed the shift linkage rod that goes from the shifter to the transmission. Also lubed the bushing that the shift stick pivots on. Now it's as good or better than the other 600 and 700s we ride with.

ANY WITH FROZEN SHIFTERS
I HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH A NEW BIKE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY TOOK THE LINKAGE LOOSE
THEY REMOVED THE COVER THAT THE SHIFTING SHAFT GOES IN IT WAS FULL OF ICE AND WATER
THEY CLEANED IT AND DRIED IT OUT REPACKED IT WITH GREASE AND PUT YAHAMA FORMING GASKET
AROUND IT REPLACED THE COVER AND LINKAGE AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE PROBLEM
MAYBE THIS WILL HELP SOME ONE THIS WAS ON A 330 MAGNUM 2004
