Default will the 2-strock survive?

Had a chat with a manufactures reps recently and he tells me Bombardier has developed some 2-stroke technology (not thier current direct and semi-direct systems) that will have better emissions than a 4-stroke and will beat the emissions regulations for 2006. I was also told that Fuji motors has a deal to purchase the technology. So, will Polaris keep the 2-strokes around? I'd like to see the 400 motor make a return.

Bombardier has both direct and semi-direct fuel injected models on the market right now. I don't know (I doubt it) if they beat the four strokes in emissions, but they are much more efficient (evidenced by vastly improved gas mileage) than their carbed models. They aren't going to be easy to mod tho, for you guys that like to do that. You need a computer, the right program for the model, and special interface equipment (read dealer only) to do ANY tuning on them at all. Seems to me that kind screws up the "simplicity" factor of the good old two strokers that we know and love.

I doubt that the 2-stroke will survive in it's current form(asside from racing and aftermarket). But I'm sure manufacturers will make some fundemental changes in the design of the 2-stroke that will allow it to survive in some form or another. In some aplications a 2-stroke just makes more sense than a 4-stroke.

The techology is there. As always it's about money. The cost will be the catch. A poorly tuned Briggs 5HP is worse than a 250cc jetted lean.
