Well my local dealer has a 95 for $3400 and it has a $800 set of rims and tires on it and about 4000 miles on the odometer so you take it from there...I borrowed and rode the bike it had plenty of power the 27" black waters really made a difference, I did find the ride of the solid axle a pain in the but after a 40 mile ride but was a nice bike overall, don't get me wrong it still doesn't compare to my 2000 Sportsman...

Sorry about that. Beartracker_250 acts like he was born yesterday. No offense to younger viewers intended.

I sold my 1996 Sportsman 400 4x4 for $4500. I went to my dealer to see what a trade in price or a selling price was on the machine and he said about $2300-$2800. So I think you are getting a good deal if there is nothing wrong with it!!!!! It is a great machine, hard worker, and hauls major A$$.

it book value is 3800, I say go for it if it is what you want. I have a friend with a 425 magnum 4x4 1996 model he has over 3000 miles on it no troubles at all. He needs a new set of chain and sprockets in the WORST way, but other than that it has been flawless. I agree dont listen to Beartracker!

I saw one just like it with 27 inch vamps and all hooked up with a pipe and clutch kit, wow ! that would go through some mud! I was impressed big time with the power.

The "Achilles Heel" of this model is the the three chains and 6 sprockets. The sprockets are about $24 apiece with the exception of the rear sprocket which goes for about $35. The chains are about $80, $65, and $60. So... inspect them for any signs of kinking in the chains or hooking on the leading edge of the sprockets.

If this is from a dealer tell him to replace them. If a private party negotiate. You are looking at about $340 for a completely new drive set.

Also check the front drive sprockets for broken teeth. The teeth will break if somebody had tried to tow a truck out of sand or anything like that.
