Default Purchase a TrailBlazer 250?

I'm wondering if purchasing a 2004 TrailBlazer 250 would be a good fit.

I grew up in the days of three wheelers and have ridden a Scrambler 400 only a few times so I am fairly new to fourwheelers.

My son is getting older and I would like to get him something to ride as well as something my wife and I could ride also. Due to budget concers, I am looking at two options. Buy a new entry level TrailBlazer that everyone can use or buy something smaller like a 90 for him and wait another year to get another one for the wife and I so we can ride. I don't like the second option since he would be the only one that could ride.

I guess the only reason I am considering a smaller bike is because of my son's age. My son is almost eleven. He has ridden before but is more on a beginners level. Kids learn quickly and I know Polaris has age recomendations but he is pretty big for his age. 5'2 and 115lbs and with a limited budget I am hoping that he can ride a 250 so I won't have to buy another another one for him in 2 years. I would like to have two full size ATV's.

I am thinking that the TrailBlazer is a pretty good fit. The auto transmition, one lever braking, etc. I know it would pull around my boy and my wife no problem. Will it tow me around OK until I can get a bigger one? I'm 6"1 and 220lbs. The Scrambler 400 seemed to have enough power but I'm not sure what kind of performance hit I will take with the 250.

The other question is how well will it go in snow. I live in Utah but I'm not talking about going where there is monster snow. Mostly none to 6", valley floor kind of stuff. I want to be able to re-jet the carb and use the thing in winter. I know the Scrambler is 4x4 and went great in the snow. Will the TrailBlazer do OK?

Let me hear your opinions, especially those with a TrailBlazer or who have owned one.

If you are going to shout out and say TrailBlazers suck you need to back up you comments and tell me why it wouldn't be a good fit for a beginner and a wife to ride.

Thanks.

A trailblazer 250 would seem to be a perfect fit for what you are looking at doing. Stock, it is somewhat mild, but is easy to mod.

As for carrying you around, I'm 6'4 190 lbs and seem to have no trouble keeping up with my cousins 500 scrambler in the woods. I also ride in some light snow and find that the tb250 is awesome to go out, throw around and do donuts. hope this helps

I had the same problem last year, I was going to purchase one for my daughter which is 11 and is just over 5'0" than, a little taller now growing like a weed, and she just doesnt fit the 90's. Her knees would hit the bars.
I went ahead and bought her a 250. I know it is a little heavy but I liked the auto and brake features also. She was doing great for some time and one day while out with my father she rolled it on a fairly steep hill that we had dug some ruts in. Since that day she has taken it easy on side hills, that is the only problem with the Trail Blazer that I have seen. Not blaming it on the machine she should have leaned uphill! You can preach all you want and send them to ATV training but untill they do it themselves it just doesnt sink in.

I would think you coulnt go wrong with the 250.

It will drag you around fine also, in the future you could pipe, jet it and put in a clutch kit and it will carry you just fine, actually faster than a stock 250 with a 100 lb person on it.

They are a good all around bike ,I bought one for my wife and she just loves it ,It will go just a tick over 50 mph with me on it 200#,But dont expect arm pulling acceleration, but it respectable for what it is ,I live in Michigan and we get a LOT of snow ,As long as you dont get hung up in the snow ,They are very good ,Even if you do get stuck they are light enough to rock back and forth to get out ,With some simple maintance such as quality oil ,air filter cleaning and chain lube and adjustments you should have a pretty much worry free ride,,,So I guess I vote "yes"

i would agree. My siste is 11 and she has ridden my tb250 before. Even my mom has riden it and liked it. If there is a power or speed problem, i am sure that you could get a throttle control. It is probably your best choice because he wont grow out of it any time soon, and you'll enjoy it to. The tb can take a beating! I got mine used and have only done some minor damage; and i was doing something stupid. There are also a lot of after market parts for the tb, like a plow for winter if you get snow a lot. (country cycle) Also, the tbs have a lot of options for when you want more power.

As for snow, the tb250's are great. They dont do as well as the 4x4's, but they hold their own. I have only been out once in the snow this year, and it was fine, i pulled my sister and her friends in like 5-7 inches of snow.

You should have no problems on the tb for your whole family. Like i said before, everyone in my family has ridden and enjoyed mt bike. I am the main rider and at 6 foot and 220 lbs, i do fine.

I just bought an RCR stage 1 kit from ritter cycle. They would be your best bet for upgrading you quad. They have the best customer support and really good prices and products!

I hope this helps you make your decision! Good luck!

If you decide to buy one, look into the red flamed limited edition model!

Thanks for the replys. Those were exactly the answers I was looking for. It sounds like something I can keep for a while and upgrade a little when needed and my wife can drive it without being scared of it. At the same time it can hold me over until I can get another one.

I would love to get the TB 250 LE. I like the red much better than the blue color. Here is a link for a website.

Trail Blazer 250 LE Red

It better not be $6,995. I could buy two regular ones for that price.

Yeah, it better not be $7k. Thats way pricey. If you don't like the blue you can always get new plastic for it. The plastic from the Scramblers and older TrailBlazers will fit. I highly recommend the Blazer. Mine have been great. I also live in Utah and have ridden all seasons and they go good in anything. It may not be fast, but it gets the job done. Snow wont be a problem. If you put chains on the rear tires it will go anywhere you want it to. Just make sure you grease the zerks and keep it full of oil and keep a clean airfilter in it. It will last for a long time if you take care of it. Good Luck.

I think that website that shows the Red/Flames on the TB250 is Australian prices.. It probably is $7000 there..Their toys cost a bunch more than they do over here. It is nice looking.. think I will buy one for my son.. Good luck on whatever u choose.
