OK guys, I need a little help. I am installing a Stage 1 RCR kit on my 2004 Trail Boss and need help getting the clutch back together. After seeing all the posts about lining up the X's, I want to make sure it is right. I only pulled the cover and changed the spring, but unfortunately did not mark the cover before hand. I figured the whole X thing would be clear. I do not see a clear X on the cover like is on the spider and outer sheeve. In fact, I do not see any X on the outside. On the back of the cover, I see an inverse X (the voids of the X are raised instead of the X). Is this what I am looking for? Any help would be great.

WOW! That is the craziest thing I've seen. The mark on the inside shouldnt be anything. What gets me is that I have seen a lot of clutches and the X has always been there. Without it being there I would put the markings with the date to align with the spider X. Have you called Rick and seen if he has seen this? Very strange indeed.

 

He told me that the X should be about 1/4" right there and visible. I see nothing. I am concerned now and a little ticked that I did not have the forethought to mark it. Anyone have any other suggestions?
