problems shifting from high to rev
#1
i got this quad on a trade last spring and I had to change the high and reverse gear out off it last summer. I put it all back together and it was a real fine tune to get both high and reverse. I could get either or but when I got both one would jump out under load. Well after pissing with it all day today I figured I would rip out the gear box again and see if there was anything else that might be worn or broke. I am thinking maybe a worn fork or a bent fork. Anyone out there have any experience with this? The machine is a 94 300 4x4. Thanks Damian

First thing that comes to mind is the ball joints on the shift rod have too much slop - Second thing is the bellcrank (little arms on top of tranny that the shift rod attaches to) may be sloppy/partially stripped. Either one is going to "lengthen" the stroke required to move from one gear to the other.

DITTO on what quadwrench said.Everyone wants to jump to the hard stuff first but this is ussualy what goes wrong on the shifting.

Check the oil in your shifter box and clean it out.If thats ok take the rods off the tranny and put it in gear by hand and see if it still jumps outt of gear.

That I will have to try. The switch took a crap last summer in that shifter and I just by passed it. just maybe there might be peices of crap in that shifter body not letting it move just enough. Thanks for the ideas guys.
