when to switch 2wd to 4wd besides the obvious
hey. besides the obvious use of 4wd like mudding and climbing, just wondering what most people leave there quad in. i have an 04 500 scrambler 4x4, and normally leave it in 2wd when trail riding and switch to 4wd when get into a tough spot then back to 2wd. just wondering if this constant switching is bad or if its better for the quad to just leave it in one or the other as far as lasting longer without problems. also, i don't notice that much of a difference on easy terrain when in 4wd as far as not getting as much speed or handling, except not being able to kick the back end out. just wanted to see anyones opinions on how they use switching back and forth, the performance difference, and if its more wear and tear one way or another. thanks

I switch back and forth all the time.
90% of the time i keep it in 2X4 and i switch to 4X4 when i need it like when pulling something really heavy or mud and what not.
I've never once had problems from switching back and forth as i need it.
It's made to switch on and off.

i ride in pits alot and i have noticed that using 4x4 when riding fast down dirt roads and stuff it handles alot better in sharp corners, the back end does not slide out hardly at all. i think it handles better on normal trails in 4x4 too, although i dont use 4x4 on trails unless i have to.
