Well to me there high mainatance when you do the break in part from there it goes down you dont have to change the oil as much....Then all you have to do is take care of it and watch the fluids etc...

i agree with predryda500, its kinda high when you first get it, my dealer recommended changing the oil at 2 hours and again at 5 when you bring it home.........but then its only every 10-15 hours from there. then jsut kinda watch fluids and grease up every now and then. The manual does a good job telling you what to do and how to do it. Like any engine, you do have to maintain it, but not like a 2 stroke.

Geez guys, you're complaining about NEEDED oil changes after the first break-in? You're calling that high maintenance?

And compared to what? Just wait till you step up to a banshee or other 2-stroke, and have to do a top end rebuild every year or two. Changing out pistons and rings are part of the game in that realm, but if you want to play, you're going to have to pay.

If you don't want to ever do any wrenching or oil changes, better stick to your PlayStation2 ATV racing video games.

I think heapster....that most of us are kinda looking upon this post as a pred vs a sportsman/trail blazer/scrambler. Compared to those quads, for the most part, the pred is higher maintaince. I don't mind doing the maintaince, and actually it makes me feel better about my quad, but I was just saying that they are higher maintaince than say a sportsman, so if you don't like to do a little here and there, then don't get it.

the predator is much easier to maintain than the rest of the Polaris lineup

Less moving parts,,,less fluids to change,,,less zerks to grease,,,,???

What do you consider maintinence?

Gotta side w/ da Heapster. Best thing to do with any quad purchase is to take an evening and familiarize yourself w/ the owner's manual. Before you leave the dealership, get yourself a model specific maint. manual also. Great tid bits of info, along with some nice to know torque specs. Grab a tube of grease from the dealer also. Like the Polaris all-season grease, da stuff sticks and works. Finally get a can of Tri-flow. This is a Teflon based lube which should be used at all steering pivots, and your chain. For the steering w/ the rubber boots, just gently pull the boots back. Then, with the straw on the spray nozzle, give 'em peridic squirts.

To go along with oil changes, you're gonna have to watch the chain tension. Easy to adjust. It's like anything in this world with mechanical parts, a little TLC goes a long way. But the best return you'll get is hours and hours of hanging onto those handlebars. Zoom, zoom!

less grease zerks?? I consider maintaince, greasing it when needed, changing the oil every 10 hrs(or when it gets black), oiling the chain often, jetting, etc...I think that it is a quad that requires maintaince. You can't just go without doing these things, and you must check everything every so often. I don't know, its not bad for me....I guess I was not comparing it right. I think it become more maintaince as you ride it harder, I always check the bolts, and mess with the ever so adjustable suspension.
