Starter Block Off On A 400?
#1
I know various places (HPD, HSP, RCR) all sell these billet plates. But they are not very clear on their description. Will it remove the starter, wiring and battery which means that I will have to pull start from now on? How much weight will I save. Really the battery is not needed as I run no head lights and it would be nice to get rid of the steel box and all the wiring.

You can easily install the White Bros battery elim. capacitor, and still have lighting capabilities. Also, if you're removing the starter, you might as well have your flywheel race lightened. You will notice the difference.

That means that I would be limited to pull start and have no back up right. Also to get rid of the battery and box you would gave to cut off the steel box on frame and file smooth and paint. Has anyone else done this?

YEP, I did. and I made my own starter block off plate. Just lay the starter down on a pice of aluminum- trace an outline with holes. And cut with a jigsaw. Then permatex it. Save your money my friend. Ud be suprised what you can make out of a alum. road sighn.

I've recently looked at a friends that he hot from HPD, very simple to fab but still undecided as I ride in alot of mud and water and its always nice to have a back up. (ive siliconed my pull handel for the sake of getting no water in the rewind, hopefully never have to use it unless my starter packs out). Ill sleep on it and soon make a decision.

Installing the starter block off, and having your flywheel milled will have no effect on your reverse. Selecting reverse is a fully mechanical event which you initiate via the shifter.
