Bad oil pump on 97' 250 Trail Blazer
My kids ran at least 5 tanks of gas through TB before anyone realized it wasn't using oil. I have oil flowing into pump, but nothing coming out. Two questions:
Do I have to remove engine to pull pump out?
TB still runs good, but I'm concerned about long term effect on the engine. I just bought it last month so have no idea how long pump has not been working. Anything I can do to check for extent of damage?

You don't have to remove the engine. You can get a block off kit from hpd. I would check the compression on it and find out if the top end has ever been done. If it hasn't, then I would plan on doing a top end in the near future before your stock pistion takes a dump on you. Replace it with a weisco.

The 250 uses very, very little oil. Like mudmaster said if it was not working then it would seize up in seconds. I can run all summer on 1 tank of oil and not run out.You would have to go through 15-20 tanks of fuel before your light will even flicker. Dont worry it is working like it should. I have had mine for 4yrs now and only fill up 2 times a year. Whatever you do do not run with no oil in the tank without at least a block off kit. But the kit is not needed. You are fine.

I appreciate the feedback. I was thinking it should be using the same amount of oil you would use when mixing at 40:1, which would be 64 oz. for 20 gallons of gas.
I sure would feel better if I could test the output of the oil pump though. Ideas?
Any tricks I should know about before I try to pull off my starter?
