'Rate Yourself' [riding experience]
#11
I wouldn't even begin to rate myself in mud because we don't have a lot soil to make mud here in in the Rockies. In trails though I think I'm an 8.5. We also don't have hills here, they are mountains and go elevations of 10,000 ft +, and most are formed from basalt and decaying granite. Basalt is a hard rock with sharp angles and is subject to rolling out from under or cutting your tires at the most inopportune moment. Decaying granite on the other hand poses other unique riding hazards, such as breaking apart while trying to climb an otherwise solid looking rock. So I rate myself as a 5 in mountain climbing, because discretion is the better part of valor.

Interesting topic,
I have no choice but to rate myself as follows:
On trails, I don't know what the criteria is exactly but I can ride the trails as fast as my quad will go without killing myself. I'm not sure how it could be done better than that so I give myself a "10"
In Mud, Like 3TV I also live in UT and this is a desert state. We have mud but not the kind most are used to. I give myself a "10" here too (hey it's not my fault we don't have "real" mud).
On safety and having fun, a "10" for sure! I wear my helmet, my wife wears her helmet, and my kids wear helmets. The mouth guards on the helmets come in very handy for keeping the bugs out of our teeth while we are grinning from ear to ear!

I have been riding dirt bikes since I was 14. I turned to street bikes when I was 17 and left the dirt for 22 yrs. I have been into to cars since I was 15 first car was a 69 mustang with a 390. Now Im into atvs since my son is old enough. Im not sure what I should compare myself to. Ive only been riding atvs for 2 yrs. I went to Cochranton and thought it was a piece of cake. Everywhere I went my son was right behind me so I feel the kid is a natural rider. At 11 yrs old he handles his Trailboss 325 better than most adults Ive seen riding and feel quite comfortable with his judgement. Not to ramble just some background.

Started Riding 3 wheelers at 6. Then went into 4 wheeled atv's with a Honda 250. Then at 14 went into 125cc bikes. Stayed into bikes until college and got into Street Bikes. Rode 600's(Honda), and 900 (Kawasaki zxr's). Got married and now retired so to speak due to marriage and not wanting to end up like two of my now Deceased friends on crouch Rockets. So went back into Atv's but into a bit slower models. So all together i have 19 years of experience and now plan on having much more:-)
Riding ability: was a 10, now don't care, I'm alive and having more fun than ever!!!!!!!

I'll have to go along with 3TV most of my off- road experience has been in a jeep. I have had a quad for 10 mos. and getting better all the time. Here in central Il. we have no hills to speak of some good mud and woodland trails.Great idea, it'll give us all something to improve on.

Been riding for 16 years, have owned several atv's starting with a 3 wheeler which really give you a head start in how to read hills before climbing them. Have never rolled an atv. Actually have only hurt myself once and that was on my 3 wheeler. I have an uncanny nack for reading the terrain and follwing the best line in the trail for me. I think
I have a huge dose of common sense when it comes to riding off road and a decent ammount of skill.

I started out 4-wheeling, with a dodge power wagon, then a cj-7 jeep. Woop's, on one of my over-seas jobs. I drove an army jeep. I give my self a 9+ for that type as I used all those vechiles, if you know what i mean.
Atv's is different. I have only owned mine now, for 16 months. So I still have allot to learn. I have 1 thousand miles now atv'ing.
Mud=4
hills=4
trails=8 - I do allot of trail riding.
beer drinking & bs 9+
