Scrambler 400 maint. and servicing the counterbalence
Its been a long time since I have had a 2-stroke AVT, so I need a litle refreshing on the basic maintenance for them. Plus specific do's and don't for the maint. on a Scrambler 400, I have a 1999, 4x4, with a K&N AF. Any tips, tricks...whatever.. I would also like to know how I can service the quads counter-balence, its kinda tricky to find, but I don't want to9 take it into the shop if it ever gets out of whack.
On another note, last night a was riding , full moon etc... and I met some other guys of quads, a 400ex, 250r, and a raptor 660, challenges started bouncing back and forth, my POlaris taking the brunt of ridcule, so we decided to do a 1/4 mile drag on a near by track, I blew past the 400ex and Raptor, the 250r came off the line with me but after I winded up a little I slowly lost him, then the Raptor cought up with the 400ex trailing, the Raptior pulled ahead about 3 quad length over the finish line with the 400ex and 250r nipping at my heals....bragging rights are awesome! Really ,the only thing you can do for the counterbalancer is to drain the oil. There are 3 plugs under the engine, one for the starter housing, the one next to it is for the counterbalancer, then next to that one is the crank case drain. The dipstick for it is right behind the recoil housing.Fill it up with any 10w30 oil (70cc) and just keep an eye on it.If the watr pump seal goes bad this is whre the water will go.Hope this helps.
