i ahve a 99 sport i just bought and rode for the first time yesterday. at the beginning of day it was fine. then later when i was in the trails and would slow it was not down shifting. i got stuck going up 2 hills. sometimes it would down shift and other times it wouldnt. i pulled the clutch cover off. the belt seems loose to me but i dont know how loose it should be. my cover has a hloe in it where the primary has worn through. there was alittle mud and water in the cover. any help would be great thanks.

 

your belt probably got wet and started slipping.

 

take your clutch cover off and put it in nutral and with the cover off revv it up and watch the clutches see if they are working properly
