The outlander 400 might be a good compromise It is abel to do utility work with no problems...and it is all right when you want to get a little sporty. The kawi sport utes are a strong choice as well.

The Xplorer is a bit lighter than the Sportsman and a bit sportier with the solid axle. But if you want something that's 4x4 useful and still feels sporty, I don't see anything other than a Scrammy. The other quads mentioned are utility quads. Some may feel sportier than others, but none of them is truly sporty. I have a friend with an 04 Vinson and it's a nice quad but it's still big and utility. All the utes are higher and have taller tires both of which diminish the "sporty" feel. And you can put a low-range tranny on the Scrammy if you really need it.

what about the Yamaha Wolverine 4x4?its -small,light weight, got the 5spd auto for the "sport" feeling- and the -4wd and the rear rack(comes stock unlike the scrammy) for the "utility" feeling-.

This is all true, but the original post asked for the BEST all around sport/ute. Hence, the Scrammy.

i still don't see how people put the scrambler in any kind of utility segment. It's a 4 wheel drive sport quad, pure and simple, no utility about it. it doesn't even have a low range!!!! c'mon guys, scrambler's are cool, but their sport machines, not sport/utility.

the Scrammy consistently beats the wolverine in shootouts, it is underpowered.
