#1
Hello all,
I just purchased a 2000 xplorer 250 and was wondering what would be first on the list for performance gains on the little two stroker? it does great and holds its one with the 300 to 350 class fourstrokers.I was just wanting a bit more
Any help would be greatly apprectiated
thanks

I have a '96 Xplorer 300 4x4. I have asked that question many times and I seem to get the same answer from everyone. So I'm planning to undertake these mods/add-ons really soon. They say a clutch kit from someone like EPI is great for getting that 2-stroker going in the low to mid portion of the powerband. Then it seems everyone suggests replacing the stock reeds with aftermarket reeds from someone like Boyesen for rounding out the power-curve.
We'll see...as I plan on tackling these things as soon as I get the dough. I was disappointed when my friend's '98 350 Wolverine beat me in a drag race. So now I'm determined to take him. Although weight did play a role in the race (me and my bike weighing about 150 more than him and his), we topped out at about the same speed. So a little quicker acceleration and I got him.
Good luck~~

Spanky is right, clutching is always a good mod. The 250 does not have reeds, it is a piston port engine. If it did have reeds, then yes, that would be another good mod. One thing that will always wake up a 2 stroke is a good pipe. Try to get a pipe and clutching from the same manufaturer if possible. They are best matched up this way, and make for the most power to the ground.
Another thing to do with Polaris machines, is to stay with Polaris specialty companies for you mods. Some people say that other companies are good too, and they probably are, but I still like the ones that specialize in Polaris. www.rittercycle.com

These are a few of the ones specializing in Polaris. There are more out there however.
I am not sure what is avaliable for you machine. The engine in your machine has many mods avaliable due to the Trail Blazer having the same one. But I am just not sure what will fit with your frame.
My personal advice would be to call Rick Ritter at RCR racing. He is known for making performance parts for many Polaris models. His website is above, the rittercycle one.

A pipe and a clutch kit is a GREAT place to start. RCR racing is a great place to find both. His prices are competetive and his service is excellent. It will really enhance the performance. Next get rid of the stock tires and get a set of Bearclaws, Blackwaters, or Swampers. All it takes is $$$$$$$.

I had one and really liked it liked the fact that it had allot of get up and go for a 250. A clutch kit for sure. I checked on pipes for it but this was late last fall I am sure some companies are or will make some especially when people realize what a great quad the Xplorer 250 really is. But I was told what ever engine mods there are for the TB can be used on the Xplorer. I bet a pipe and a clutch kit would make that quad rock. I was neck and neck when racing a 1996 425 Magnum 4x4 on mine and it was bone stock.
