Default 700 SP Starter

During cold weather my 03 700 starter sounds like it binds up like it don't want to turn over the motor makes a loud noise. Now when it cranks you can hear the starter making a sound right after it cranks like a rattling sound. It doesn't bind untill its pretty cold and been setting all night after it warms up it don't do it anymore. My 2 friends 700 don't do that binding or the sound after it starts. What should I do?

You could try adding some low temp (mobil 1 red?) gease to the start gear shaft?

I use to have to do that every spring to our 1976 MG Midget's starter.

I think there might be something loose in the starter making the rattle. I rattles everytime I start it now. But its done it for awhile I just don't want it to mess up somewhere out riding.

since you have a 700 and no pull start ... i would get that fixed right away

No matter how close you are to your truck ... pushing an 700lbs machine makes for a long walk

Any chance the starter is not disengaging right away? Like others said, take apart the starter, inspect and clean it if necessary, and add some grease to the gear.

Thanks for the advise I will be taking it off pretty soon. It has been doing it for a year but I should have checked it by now.
