Default Yes, the Sportsman is Tough!

A friend has a 2004.5 Sportsman 500. We were riding today in the snow. He wanted to hit this jump again. He was going about 20 mph. He had to ride over a few small logs. On the way to the jump, the quad hit a log and was thrown toward a huge tree. He bailed in time. The quad hit the tree very hard. The right front headlight area broke off. That was it.

They way I saw it hit the tree I figured the front radiator protection would have been bent or broken.
I also thought the front suspension or A-arm assembly would have been bent or damaged.

Nope. The Sportsman is tough. All that thick steel in the front did the job. Yes, they are heavy for a reason.

My Outlander, being all aluminum in the front, would have had some serious damage.

Happy Holidays Everyone.

Snowwolfe,
I saw a post about a month ago where someone asked you about the King Quad and I think you said you hadn't had enough seat time yet to comment. Since then I have taken the King Quad out at a dealer and drove it on their test track.

I personally like the feel of the Sportsman better along with a few other things. I plan on getting a 700efi.

Anyway, since you had the opportunity for more extensive back to back comparisons between the Sportsman 700efi and the King Quad, I was wondering what things you like about the sportsman better, and any other comments you have about the two.

Thanks.

I can't say I like the Sportsman more than the KQ. Each has it's strong points. For going out and having fun, carving turns and wheelies the KQ is better and it is also faster. I like the Polaris for utility because it feels more heavy duty and has better tires and stronger wheels. It also has better racks. When we go hunting I will be riding my 6x6 and my son will take the Sportsman. When we go out to play one of us will take the KQ and the other the Sportsman. If I had to pick just one machine for utility it would be neither. I would stick with the 6x6. For sport I would pick the KQ.

Jeff, Glad to hear your friend got off in time and didn't get hurt. The machines are tough. For all-around use, the Polaris is tops in my book....riding fast, riding slow, handling, towing, hauling, all out toughness....nothing comes close.....of course, in my opinion.....

yea id say they are tough... me and a bud were riding sleds down the trails and there were 2 polaris atvs riding the outer edge and moved over for us to get through well the one behind the other was pulled down and hit a tree at 30 mph the rider was thrown off and hit the tree... just a sore neck for him and his atv had a little crack in the plasitc that was it ... i was completly amazed at that i thought for sure the whole front end was gonna be gone
