500HO stalling...please help!!!

Hello all,
went out and plowed for the first time and the machine kept stalling. It will start right up again though and let me go another 200 feet or so but then stalls again without warning just quits....also, backfired once...pleae help i needd help,,,seems to idle slow also

Slow idle will cause that, and so could a dirty carb.
Also old gas,and low float level could cause that.
Where was the throttle position at when it dies? Idle, 1/2 open ?
If turning up the idle doesnt fix it, drop the float bowl and check for crud.

Sounds like a problem I had last year. Before you tear things apart, you might want to check the throttle cable freeplay adjustment at the handlebar. The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) will cut the engine if the adjustment isn't correct. The throttle cable stretches after a while and the slack needs to be taken up.
