Transmission Wanted
#1
I/We decided that we are gonna put the Scrambler back together from its intimate encounter with a pine tree. Thanks in part to Chopper Bill.
But, since I will be disassembling most of the bike, I've talked to girlfriend into letting me make some "necessary" modifications.
Everything is covered except for a 2 speed transmission. It can be in need of rebuild, it just needs to be one of the older dual range chain drive transmissions. If you think you have one but not sure if it will fit, e-mail me and I'll gladly find out for ya... Thanks....

Glad to hear you gonna get the possum up and running again. Are you getting the parts cheap or does that new job really pay that good!?!?!
I'll keep looking around here but I just havent had any luck finding cheap used parts, seems like youve got most of it covered anyway.
Good luck with the project

The new job is good... It doesn't pay THAT good yet, and I just THOUGHT I had most of the tools I needed..
If I had to pay retail for all the parts I need for the Scrambler, I'd junk it. The Possum probably won't get finished until about Christmas... I had to rebuild a 2000 Grizzly the other day, and have to do the 2x4 Yamadawg of Tracys AGAIN. I'm not taking on any more engine rebuilds after that, I want to do some mods to my OWN stuff... Who knows, maybe after the Scrambler, I might just go ahead and H.O. the Magnum.
Keep an eye out for that older style transmission for me.... theres gotta be a clapped out Polaris 350 4x4 somewhere...

Mudmachine the transmission can come out of any of the old 400 two stroke bikes. It dose not have to come out of an old 350. Actually I think that the old 350 ran a different tranny. Would have to look in the polaris manual to make sure though.

Mudmachine, Would you be interested in a WHOLE 92 model 350 4x4 with the Engine blown? I just had a guy pick one up from me a while back that he decided not to fix. The block was busted. He mentioned to me that he would sell it if anyone was interested. If you are interested I can inquire for you. I see this guy regularly.

Kagey,
Yeah!!.. IF the price is RIGHT!!... The rest of the bike will be useless to me, but if the price is right, sure, find out what he wants for it. I'm gonna try and remember to call the Polaris Dealership again to verify that it will fit. I called one of the chief mechanics awhile back and if I remember right, he said that as long as it had the "torque preload bolt" at the rear of the tranny, had the long shaft (for chain drive front ends) and had the bottom case mount position, It would fit.
Thanks for any and all help ya can give...

mudmachine,
The transmission that you are looking for is called a Type 3 EZ Shift. This tranny did not come out until late 1993. It is in all 1994 and newer 4X4 bikes until Polaris came out with the Cocentric drive. The tranny in the 1992 350 is a Type 2 and the housing is different. So it will probaly not work. In case you are wondering I am getting all of this information out of a factory Polaris service manual. The manual covers bikes from 1985 to 1995. Just trying to help and make sure you get the right tranny.
