Default new tld predator,, first ride problems HELP

I just got to take my new tld pred for a ride with my brother, and the predator ran really rough, it would spit and sputter every time i would increase the throttle speed, and it would even backfire a couple of times??? I live in wisconsin, the temp tonight was -10 degees, did that matter on the reason it did these things or is it that it is brand new and it needs to go though these things ,,,im really confussed?????? is any of this normal, the quad would like totally slow down to the point that you would push forward HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! THANKS

Default new tld predator,, first ride problems HELP

Did it do it after it was totally warmed up or all the time?? If it did it all the time, with as cold as it is here, it sounds as a severly lean condition..... but being a 4-stroke it should handle it, but again, as cold as it is the stock jetting might only be good for down to 20* or so I know when I had my 400ex I ran the "summer" jetting in the winter too. Reasons being, summer time I had no airbox lid, K&N, & a pipe.... winter, lid on with stock muffler, so regardless the temp, the changes in engine breathing compensated. Hope I made some sense here. Basicly, I guess I'm saying that at such cold temps that we are having now, it is probably lean & you'll have to go up 1-2 sizes on the pilot, raise the needle 1 notch, & probably up 1-2 on the main. Also have your hand ready on the choke & when it bogs/hesitates try pulling the choke & see if that helps the bog/ hesitation & if it does ur for sure too lean. Hope this helps.

make sure your engine is warmed up completly before riding it hard but dont let a new engine free idle run it around...when the engine is completly warmed up(10 minutes or so) does it still sputter and bog

Your not jetted right for that temperature, has to be richened up. Larger main, raise the needle....

wouldnt you want to lean out the jetting if its sputtering, since you increase jetting for hotter temps?

You got it backwards Tekky, colder = richer, hotter = leaner

Yea, it's starving for fuel by the way it sounds. If upssmann ran it today I hope he tried the choke pulling like I suggested, that would tell him right away if its a carb problem, which most of us here think it is.

Did it run better with the choke at half open??? This info might help too........oh, and be sure to get it warmed up, let it idle for a while before even getting on it, and then ride it easy for a while.....otherwise you'll cold sieze it......
