Default "E" on LCD for Gear Selection Indicator...2002 SP 700

I swapped switches and everything worked again. What a relief. So I took my switch apart, took a little prying, and there was alot of moisture in there. So I took the hair dryer to it and cleaned it up a bit with a rag. I plugged it in and most of them worked, "H", "L", and "P" worked, but still got an "E" in Neutral and Reverse. I'll have to clean it better and seal it back up.
I figured the water got in around the O-rings. What type of grease is good to put on O-rings???

Jack3689, I hope ur fix is just the switch.
Well, unless the new switch I bought was bad from the factory it's unfortunitly not the switch...

As for a grease to put on the connector- go to the local autoparts store and get some Dielectric Grease (sometimes called "bulb grease"), it should be in the aisle with the headlights and light bulbs and perhaps over by the spark plug wires. It is a grease you can use on electrical parts to seal out moisture. I use it on all my connectors and also inside of spark plugs boots. Never had a failure that I could attribute to a connector getting wet and corroding. If I were you I would also take apart your switch again and liberally put that stuff inside as well.

Thanks, yeah i got some of that grease at home. Just wasn't sure if was good for O-rings, knew it was good for electrical. I'll put it all back together and hope it works, for a long time.

Well my wife's "E" is flashing....when it's not spitting out crazy characters. And the speedometer needle is flashing. The battery and oil lights are on. Oh, and did I mention that the only way to make it all stop is to disconnect the battery? The key and the kill switch won't shut off the display. Seems to run fine though.

Any clue what in the world is going on?

Whoa! You got something way wrong going on! Do you have any aftermarket elecrical items on board? If so I'd start disconnecting them one at a time to see if one of them is the culprit.

My dealer called yesterday and told me what was wrong with mine. It turns out that my Warn winch selenoid shorted out causing the rest of my electrical system to go haywire. He replaced the selenoid and all is well!

Nope, the only aftermarket product on it is a mirror :-)
There is a small crack in the speedo lens, so I'm wondering if moisture has built up in it. Of course that still wouldn't account for the kill switch not shutting power off to it....maybe the kill switch is where I should start.

Glad to hear your's worked out half-way painlessly!

I can tell you what it is right now......a speedo unit. this is the sure signs of a bad unit. Oh ya my friend it's 255.00. Mine did the same thing. 2003 400 sportsman 100 hrs and 400 miles out of warranty and now a nice chunk of change gone out of my pocket.

Uggggh.....that's what I was afraid I would hear.. She's going to have to run it that way for a few months, I need to get me a atv first [been borrowing my dad's]. Hope runing it with a screwed up speedo doesn't cause problems.
Still bothers me that the kill switch doesn't shut it off, what good is a kill switch that doesn't kill everything?

ok I have a question dont know if this is related. I friend has a 04 700 and is getting no LCD or 4WD. 4WD will work if LCD is working but when it flicks off it will not work. Any ideas? Thanks for the input

my 02 700 sp did the "E" thing intermittently, and finally the second Ducati ignition trigger/stator that was installed crapped out again!
The new polaris fix is a new japanese kit, complete with the aforementioned trig/stator, cdi, etc, that will set you back $399.99 for the parts alone!
I must say I'm not impressed with their quality, or their philosophy of letting the buyer just shell out more money for a fix of their f_ _ _up!
When it comes time for a new toy, it won't be polaris for me!
Anyone else have this problem???
