Default 2ndary clutch question..

How high, when the wheeler isn't moving.. should the belt be sitting on the 2ndary clutch? my belt doesn't go altheway into the 2ndary. there is about an 1/8th of an inch sticking above the clutch. Which would explain how my last belt wore out.

The teeth of the belt were worn off and gone but the flat?? part of the belt was intact...

so.. anyone have a picture of how the belt should be sitting on the 2ndary??

thanks.

1/8 of an inch sounds about right! That's what I run mine at. When is' even with the secondary, it's time for a new belt!

yep, 1/8 sounds right. This is "low gear" and will quickly shift into the secondary once you start moving

how quickly should it shift in? It's on a 99 500 scrammy and when I took it for a spin and watching the clutch with the cover off it didn't quickly get into the primary.... I had to actually go a good clip to get it to get into it..

living in bandon i take it you ride the coos area a lot and i would bet that you have a nice goove wore in the primary clutch. down in the dunes riding around the old 500 doesnt shift up to fast and they tend to bog down a little causing the belt to get hot . plus they ride right up the sheeve a little and start to wear a groove. when i worked at the ol pol dealer ship we would re place lots of drive clutchs do to this.
