I was riding in a mudhole last weekend and with a Rancher with lift kit and 25" Vampires. And a Scrambler 400 4x4. And we were mudding. Well the rancher gets stuck tring to follow me then i pulled it out then the Scrambler wanted a peice of the pie. So he goes though the mudhole and GETS THROUGH IT. Like it was nothing. It was hilarious. This guy with the rancher has spent like 6500+ on his atv and still cant beat me in the mud.

while riding along the trails we saw a 400 ex parked,as we got up to it a kid ran out of the woods and asked if we had 4x4,he asked if we would pull his buddy out of the mud as his 400ex wouldnt do it,we abliged..went around to the spot to find(this is not bashing but honest truth) a 3w/d honda,i didnt even look to see what kind, didnt care, machine was buried over the tires, started to winch and it was sucking my quad in.unhook and position myself behind a large utility pole for the power lines, rehooked and sucked it right out..the kids were impressed, one even said i bet you never get stuck,i said nope we all get stuck sometimes..after unhooking i jumped in the mud he was stuck in and whaled thru it no problem, stopped on the other side and said theres the difference between 3 and 4 wheel drive..it was a joy

Sounds like a "joy". 2 weeks ago I got stuck on my 335 in some nasty mud. So I had to walk back to camp and get my 400EX and my wife and some rope. Anyway my 400 pulled out my 335 w/ my wife on it. The tires on the 335 looked like racing slick they were so muddy. So my 2 wheel drive pulled out the true 4 wheel drive......as long as we're talking.

while were talking,if you jumped in the mudhole on the 400 ex and ripped thru it after you pulled out the 335 then we would have something to talk about

Padzz,
I'd like to see you pull out a full grown 99 Sportsman equipped with 26 inch Mudrunners, wraped all the way around with your EX.You get a Quad with Mudrunners stuck,no 2wd quad will even budge it.I once had my 99 500cc Sportsman stuck so bad,my brothers KQ did;nt BUDGE it.It took 2 tugs before a full size Land Rover got me out.Now thats stuck.====Bill

Bill...just making conversation....yeah my 400 was not in the mud (did get it stuck the same day too, but I could lift it out), but the 335 was very stuck. It was bottomless mud from a low lake. Again, I know Polaris is superior in the mud, I was just reacting to the 3 wheel drive/Honda inferiority/usual bashing comments.

I like the Hondas but I like the Polais' because they are super in mud and that's what I need for my next quad...we are headed towards a Sportsman 3354x4 or Magnum 3254x4 something between 1996 and 1999...what's better?

You could take a 400EX and go full out on it and it would skim across a mudhole...lol

Yeah, the 3wd comments don't even come into play here, as it was a 2wd quad doing the pulling anyhow. You should have done a Kamikaze run with the EX just for S & Giggles. The 335 could have surely pulled you out if you didn't make it.

ATVMAN: I'm happy w/ my '99 335. It's such a smooth ride w/ the IRS. I'm looking at selling it here soon. E-mail me if interested.

When I did get stuck on the 400 I was jumping a mud hole and the rear tires landed in the mud and it just sunk. The mud there was more like quick sand. I'd be very impressed with ANY motor vehicle that could make it through this mud. I don't think one could. No pics damnit.
