The ETC is a good idea, but when something is giving me trouble I go with a permanent fix that works for me.

Whitedog and Jeffro206,
I think it was my ETC. I adjusted it the wrong way yesterday. I started it today and adjusted it but I need to fine tune the idle speed at the carb. My electric start isn't working. Another problem I have but I just pull start it until tonight when the rope broke when I started it. When it rains it pours. The starter problem is when I run the bike for a couple hours the electric start works fine but if I let it sit over night it just makes a single click at the silinode. I think I might have a bad wire somewhere or even something drawing the current down. The lights will work fine and the the dash light for neutral will work but the starter will not turn. I have 12 volts coming out of the silinode but I haven't taken off the skid plate yet to look at the wires going into the starter.

man tmzq, youre right when it rains it pours and it does suck! sounds like maybe the starter brushes. check ebay, there was a rebuild kit for around 25 or 30 bucks on there the other day. you may be able to get the starter off from under neath. little tight, but unless you have a clutch puller, it may be your way to go.

Have you ever replaced the recoil starter rope before. If so how hard is it. Don't want that spring coming unwound and kicking my butt. I will look on ebay for some brushings but would it work after riding for a couple hours then not work the next day if it was only the brushings.

the recoil's pretty easy really. just unbolt the cover and it'll come off. it wont fly apart, just watch if you take out the screw holding the rope rotor in. then it can come apart. should be able to replace rope only without taking it all the way apart.
yeah, the brushes can do that. they could be sticking and then come loose when riding or have a dead spot then vibrates until it makes contact and turns over. my bike did this to me once. ran fine one day, next wouldn't turn over at all.
