I will be purchasing a 2000 500 Scrambler shortly and have been viewing the forum. I feel good about this machine and look forward to future discussions. One thing that concerned me when I was checking out the machine was the top end engine knock. But, after reading some of the same topic, I am less concerned. As long as it is normal. It sounds more like a 2 stroke. Am I right to be less concerned?

The 500 motor is actually pretty quiet. Most knocks that people hear is the primary clutch. The slide buttons wear down and gets too much play so they tend to knock. Most people just let it go. The buttons are like $2.00 each and it takes 6 of them. Easy to replace. It should not sound like a 2 stroke though. If it is an engine knock then I would be worried. The clutch knock almost sounds like an engine knock.

Hi, I recently bought a brand new 500 Scrambler and there's a tapping sound in my engine (right side) when iddling, my dealer says it's normal.
Maybe it's the same sound you're hearing

Your timing chain is on that side. There is also a part that the recoil catches that spins. This is the friction plate. This part of the recoil makes noise while running. The noise is normal.

The oil pumps on these machines are quite noisy as well.

Just be happy you have one. I only have a TB 250. But am very glad to have that. The scrammy is a great machine. I hope to have one in a couple of years.
