Sportsman Stability
#1
Last sportsman question here, to go with the other two I just did. This time, i'm wondering about overall stability on sidehills and uneven spots. Does the quad have any hard leaning tendencies? They always try to say IRS makes it lean the wrong way. I never bought into that. They said the same about my semi-independant Arctic Cat, and it most certainly does not lean downhill. Excellent stability. Is the IRS in the same league here. How hard are off cambers? I mean, do you feel comfortable negotiating in these spots, or does it scare the hell out of you doing it? Basically, I don't like flipping quads any worse than the next guy, so I wouldn't want anything that is prone to flipover (enter any Suzuki from the 1980's). Once again, any help here is appreciated.

Here we go again Andy I am getting greyer and greyer have you no mercy at least I don't have to follow that yellow rooster this time, and you know when I tell you it is no bull all facts because I have owned both. Well here we go andy the sportsman is not as stable as the cat but then again you don't scrape as much on the bottom and you wouldn't get your but wet as easily on the sportsman, when I first got the sportsman it felt tipsy to me and a lot of it was my imagination as I am sure chicken will tell you. You have owned the cat with semi IRS so you have a kind of idea how this kind of suspension performs all the honda, kawasaki, yamaha and any other atv can preach till they turn blue in the face about the solid axle but when I am setting up something steep that is not even and one wheel is dropped down and the other one is level, well you have rode solid axles and most likely dealt with your back so I won't go into that. I have found Andy that you develop a different rideing style when rideing the sportsman what most bikes go around I just mammoth over top of...also getting rid of those poor stock tires and getting a squared tire helps a lot I know you don't like the black waters but I simply love mine, it takes a heck of a sideways incline to even get the upper side lifting up with these tires. One more thing I ride with a buddy who has the camo 500 sp and he is one of these fellows who dodges mudholes and refuses to put it into low so help me you would just have to see him go around mudholes and you know how a mudhole drops off with ease on factory tires to boot and has never once even come close to turning over...and in high gear I can't seem to get it into his head you can run the sportsman up to 25mph no big deal in low but he choses to run it in high to each his own I predict he will be buying a belt soon ehehehehe...so there you have it Andy the Sportsman has a higher center of gravity than the cat but as I said there are advantages to both and you do have to change your rideing style to fit the bike...As I told you I am very truthful my sportsman has been on its side one time I was going up this dangerously steep hill with rocks and gullys when the front wheels which were the factory ones which were worn out lost traction trying to climb up on a rock the rear end went the opposite direction of the sideways incline and she slowle tipped over on her side...but with the new tires or even if I would have had factory tires with traction this wouldn't have happened...so you can't get more honest than that...so now what do you got to say roosterman...

Same old song and dance. I've fell off the wagon again and am back into the AC selling mode. Matter of time probably. Most of the uncertainties have been answered and most seem to have a positive outcome. Some of the things I worried about don't seem that bad anymore. I get paid Friday for this month. That might make me lean into a possible trade. The quicker I could get this thing, the quicker I would stop getting razzed for all of the crap I have dealt out lately.
