I would prefer the gas mileage. A number of years ago, I had a quad four in a Grand Am. That was 160hp and it consistently got over 30 mpg.

Solstice also weighs about 400lbs more than the upcoming, new for 06 Mazda Miata. Don't expect the Solstice to be faster.

and saturns are junk, they might have good value, but all it is a big chunk of worthlessness

The Solstice and Sky are basically the same car with different sheet metal - as pretty much all of Saturns have been in the past, GM rebadges.

As for the Miata being the g@y car status symbol, I tend to agree with you up until the 06 Miata is released, then I'll have to start disagreeing.

You might be right about the MX5, but not the M5. I think the Solstice will tromp on the M5.

Huh? Last time I checked the M5 was a 5 series BMW with a 500HP V10 under the hood...

I'm guessing we're on two different pages here?

The engine is no relation to the Quad 4. This is the Ecotech, and it is a fantastic engine. My nephew drag races Honda Civics and he says the GM factory team with the Ecotech dominates everyone. He said it is a great engine and is becoming well supported with aftermarket hop-ups. He liked it so much he bought a Cavalier just to get the engine so he could build it.

I drove that Cavalier, and it has the 140 hp version. It is a spunky engine with good pull right off idle and all the way up to redline. I would imagine the 177hp version will be a hoot. My brother is feeling pretty bad right now about dropping 35 grand on a BMW Z4 with 180hp. Its a fun car, but he had the transmission replaced at less than 1000 miles! He saw the pictures of the Saturn Sky, and is now drooling at the same time he weeps!

As for first year models from GM, I had a 99 Silverado Z71 that was from the first two months production run. I just sold it with 110,000 trouble free miles. It was a fantastic vehicle, and was just as structurally tight as when new. Loved that 5.3 V8 so much that I now drive an 03 Tahoe and my wife drives an 04 Suburban. Both trouble-free so far. Excellent fit/finish, too.

The Miata has two models in 2006: the Miata M5 and the Miata MX5
