Default My next car: 2006 Pontiac Solstice

I have just found what will be my next new car. LOL, I have been waiting for a long time for this one. A really great two seater!! I thought long and hard about the Corvette. But not sure I wanted to split with that kind of money. At under $20,000 the Solstice doesn't get much better. The first 1000 Pontiac Solstice's went in 10 minutes after they were released to the public for sale.

Good price and nice looking car. I wonder why it only gets 20/28 mpg?

Good question Dave. It must be something about the small two seater rag tops. Seems the Miata has close to the same mileage (23-28) and it is lighter with a smaller motor. However, since I drive mostly highway.. it shouldn't be too bad.

It probably has to do with a heavy right foot in a sportscar :-o

I would love to see that car with a few more ponies though. Imagine the Solstice with say 275HP!! I'll bet the aftermarket jams with products very quicjly.

A Vette is hard to beat in value. But, you are right, it's tough to part with $47k+.

Hey 05PRED500... I read a preview on the Solstice and they suggested that it would be faster that the Miata M5 because it was much higher HP and torque. He also said it may feel as fast as the 2000 because it had a higher torque than it; however, I doubt it keeps up with the 2000. LOL, not sure that I need even the 177 hp. I would prefer the gas mileage. A number of years ago, I had a quad four in a Grand Am. That was 160hp and it consistently got over 30 mpg.

That is a cute little car. I love small two-seater convertables. I have a red 1991 Mercury Capri XR-2 turbo and that thing rocks! If I am lucky I get 30mpg.

The 2000 really kicks in at Vtec (6000rmp). The 04s and up have better torque than prior but still not enough. They handle amazingly and win the national SCCA autocross every year in B stock. Regardless...The Solstice, IMO, is better looking. I will definitely go test drive one. I guarantee that I wouldn't get good MPG in the Solstice :-)

That was a neat car!! I also owned a Fiero GT that I loved. I ran it to 200,000 miles then went looking for another two seater... LOL, it took Pontiac 18 years to come up with a replacement. Hey better late than never

It has taken Pontiac a long time, they finally had the Fiero running great when they pulled it off the market, what a shame.
