Default Oily pull cord?

I have been using my pull cord quite a bit lately and I noticed that the cord is quite oily with a black/grey fluid. I have not noticed this before in any of the Yamaha's I have owned previously. Is this normal? BL

I had the same problem on my 400. Like polarifreak said, changed the seal and no further problem.

Not hard if you are somewhat handy. The only thing that held me up was the flywheel which is on there tight. Use a good harmonic balancer puller and lube all of the friction points on the puller before you begin. I have an air compressor and impact gun which made it easy. There is a 'star' nut in there, but all you have to do is to mark its position before you begin then use a hammer and punch to loosen it. Then tighten it the same way and line up the marks.

Oh , also have the flywheel lightened while your in there for a little better throttle response
