Remember bck in the 70's during the oil embargo, when gas was going up and up, all the locking gas caps people bought? Was down at my Mom's in Soouth Texas last June and she told me to go buy a locking cap, people were stealing gas. I did buy one, but wondered if anyone else has considered it. Just because your gas flap opens from the inside of the car/truck, they're not hard to open. Guess I need to put one on the RV. They could fill up a fleet of Toyota's with the size of that tank.

Yes, gas prices are higher than we are used to. However, historically and adjusted for inflation, they are still much lower than record highs. Prices are likely not going back to sub $1.50 so people will adjust. It will eventually put more consumer pressures on alternative fuels and conservation. But, right now, folks (including me) love their big SUVs.

I agree with Pred500 I think to many people want to blame everyone else for their problems and not look at themselves. My family has worked very hard to get what we have. Wife and I worked the extra shifts to pay for all our toys and then some, so we could buy things with cash. Yes, we put things on credit, but we try and pay them off when we can. All the rides you see in my signature were paid for with cash, other then the PSD. It also took us 8 years to get all the quads we now own.
Problem with today's society is, They want it NOW majority doesn't want to work hard. They want the Clinton's back in office so they can be handed everything.
If you live within your financial means, you will have a better life.
As far as the CEO's of the USA companies making too much money Maybe they are. However, they have introduced new ideas to get the consumers (us) to keep spending money to keep this country moving foward. Imagine what would be happening if, the major auto companies didn't change their attitudes after 9-11. With zero percent financing? or today with employee discounts, plus cash back? Cell phone companies and their roll over minutes, free phones, etc.
When it comes to CEO's getting a slap on the hand when they get caught breaking the laws. Some are going away for quite a few years in prison. So, look outside your box and watch the world as a whole.
You control your own destiny.

I had a friend give me a 91 Geo Metro convertable for helping him clean up around his warehouse. It needed a new top (352.00), a new ignition assembly (75.00), tires (150.00), inspection (39.00), tags (50.00) and insurance. Couldn't see putting that much money in something I really didn't really need or want (it was free though). Sat in my driveway for 4 months with a cover on it. Finally called a junk yard to come get it and they gave me 70.00 for it. Probably could have sold the stupid thing for 500.00 now.

Are you kidding me??? Who in hell said they "supported" higher gas prices? Man, I get 13.4 MPG on average. I was simply stating fact. No one wants to spend more money than needed on gas. I just have a problem with people wanting pitty.
I do have the same attitude as mywife'squad. I will just make more money. That is the cool thing about this country.
The funny thing is, this is no surprise at all. ALL of the indicators have shown that gas prices were going to rise for 15 years. I would absolutely expect $3.00 a gallon fairly soon. It will likely stay that way, so people should prepare. I am considering an econobox because I drive as much as 25k miles a year. Do the math...

The oil producing nations have a limited resource that WILL go away eventually. They have done a fairly good job of keeping prices reasonable since the early 80s. Demand has increased and prices go up. It is overdue, not because I want it high, but because it has been artificially low for a long time. In a way, the low prices of the past 22 years have cursed us. We have done NOTHING to develop our own resources plus, the consumers have not demended more fuel efficient vehicles in high enough numbers.
Like I said, no one supports higher prices. But, if you sold widgets, you would try and get the highest amount for your widgets. Add to the fact that your raw materials aren't renewable, and you would want to make your money while you could. OPEC knows where their bread is buttered. They don't want to kill the world economy, but there are limits. If there was more competition from say....US, they would be kept in check even more!!
