Scrambler 500 2X4 vs KFX 700
I own a mint 01 Scrambler 500 2X4 with a few mods and my bud is thinking about getting an 05 or 06 KFX 700. Is this gonna be ugly or what? He hasn't riden an ATV in years while I ride resonably often. I can't let him eat me alive on the trails or anywhere for that matter. I'm just curious if I should look at upgrading to a Predator or maybe the Outlaw? To be honest, based on Specs I can't tell which one would be better to upgrade to. Or should I do more mods to my trusty Scrambler? I love the thing and hate to get ride of it.

Scrambler 500 2X4 vs KFX 700
well in a recent dirt wheels article(cant remember what issue), they did a heavyweight sport quad shootout..... i think it had a kfx700, ds650, and a scrambler 500???
the 700 and 650 were 2wd models(duh) and the scrammy 500 was 4wd model. but with the same riders, the scrammy 500 won the woods race, and had the obvious advantage when encountering mud. but it was a blowout as far as drag race and open space riding.
so you might just be able to keep up with yer buddy in the woods. it all really depends on the rider, and how you have the quad set up, as far as clutching and other mods go. let us know how it goes!

Scrambler 500 2X4 vs KFX 700
With a pipe, a jet, and a K&N you can get the 500 up to KFX specs.
The Kawi has a lot of power and is very responsive. They're also poorly balanced. Most of the weight is in the back and they want to wheelie all the time. Try to get a KFX to do a donut around one of the front wheels. It's an easy task in the Scrambler but I'm about 220 lbs and can't get enough weight on the front end to get it to bite.
The plastic on them is very fragile. We can roll our Scramblers all day long. One roll on the KFX LE Gray meant a call to Maier Plastics.
The KFX is slightly wider.
The KFX rides a lot harder and won't handle whoops on a track.
Since 2000 the headlights on the Scramblers were mounted on the handlebars so they turn with you as opposed to when the body straightens up.
Stock vs stock, and depending on the terrain, the KFX will likely eat the Scrambler up in a straight away but if that's a big deal, mods to make it keep up are around $300.
I've spent a considerable amount of time on both bikes. You can't go wrong with the Scrambler. You'll have a balanced, sturdy bike that's had a lot of refinement over the years. The KFX is a fairly new model. They been making the Scrambler long enough to perfect things...except the orange plastic. Yuck! Try to find an 05. It's identical mechanically to an 06.

I think you will do better then you thing, two guys I ride with have HMF pipes on there KFX's and I know for sure one does not have any clutch work. I take both in a straight line and doubt I am that much more powerful then yours. With fine tuning of the clutch you should take him until he tunes his.
just my 02 cents.

Then the 05s are just fast as hell. lol I'm pretty sure they're not any different than the 04 but find a guy with a KFX and ride with him and see what you've got. Try it on a track if you can. You made need some clutch work... Maybe the KFXs will run faster than you can really ride them because of the crappy suspension?

Scrambler 500 2X4 vs KFX 700
Well we are going to check out the KFX 700 he wants tomorrow. I guess I will make a decision once he gets it and I see for myself what it can really do. Does anyone know if anyone makes aftermarket plastics or graphics for a Scrambler 500? I wouldn't mind giving mine a facelift.
