Stop Delivery Of ALL Sportsman500EFI
For anyone that has further concerns, these are the effected units:
2006 Sportsman 500 EFI

If you're bike is one of these and it hasn't been fixed, or you're unsure about whether or not it's been fixed, check with your dealer. If it has been fixed, there is usually a sticker on top of the airbox which list the service bulletin number, date, and dealer number. There are times when the sticker doesn't make it though when the update is complete, so if you're positive your dealer has updated it but there is no sticker just ask him to get a sticker for you.
The service bulletin number is ATV-05-03. Your Polaris dealer can pull the full article.

I spoke with the dealer yesterday about my flashing, "HOT" fix. He said he sent for the part and doesn't know when it will be in. He also said when he gets the part he will have to run a diagnostic test on it, and run it until it flashes hot. Now I'm scared because when my front diff on my 2004.5 500 was fried by the dealer, he said it was normal for my front wheels to be locked up and skidding. What kind of diagnostic does he have to do? Shouldn't all of the 500EFI's have this fix just in case? Why do I need to have someone drive my quad around until they damage my engine before they do the fix? I can see it now, "Yep, your engine is overheated, it needs the resistor fix." Or, "We couldn't get it to flash hot so we couldn't do anything." Here in Northern California, we don't have Polaris dealers on every corner. I spoke with the next closest dealer about the problem and he didn't know about it. He spoke with his 16 year old mechanic who didn't know anything about the problem. This is what I'm dealing with. Okay, I got that out of my system...
Now for my real question, What does the resistor fix really do. After the fix, will the overheat sensor work properly and activate if my quad overheats? Or is this just a way to keep the "HOT" from flashing forever?

i just wanted to give everyone a quick heads-up on today's events.
my Dealer would NOT replace the leaky tire because it had a very strange looking nail in it. EVEN THOUGH i called them the DAY after i took delivery and told them the right front was 3PSI and the other 3 were 5PSI. it didn't matter. i rode from the Dealer's shop into my clean trailer, towed it home, then backed it into my garage. then was admiring it, then checked the PSI. didn't matter. they said they were not responsible. they plugged it!
i really can't see how the nail was obtained in my posession. it happened at their lot and THEY SKREWED ME. i bit my tongue, swallowed my pride, loaded my ATV and made my departure.
as for the resistor and overheating, they said it's complete. time will tell.

MT, don’t get too wrapped up in placing blame or “the principal of the thing.” You can’t be any more positive it didn’t happen when the quad was in your possession than the dealer can that it didn’t happen prior to you taking possession. Either way the fix is the same. That plug isn’t going to give you any trouble if they did it right. If it does develop a slow leak (doubtful from a nail hole) get out your trail repair kit and stick another plug in it. Life’s too short…….. Let’s hope your cooling fix sticks and you can be thrilled with your new machine again.

I got something nice to say about Polaris. I just spoke with another dealer about the false "HOT" flash. He contacted Polaris and has several kits on their way. He spent quit a bit of time explaining the situation. I'll be taking my quad into his shop. It's about a 2hr drive but he seems to be on the ball. He said he will be fixing all of his units before they go out the door. Now wasn't that nice? Oh, I have another nice thing to say. My 2006 500EFI looks real nice parked in my garage, all new and clean with less than a mile on the odometer.
