Default lost key and have a couple questions

Polaris trail boss 250 - 94 model W948527

1st- Is there any way to bypass the switch if I install say a toggle switch somewhere to get it running without a key? There are 4 wires coming to the swith.....red which I have tested carries power to the switch, then there is a red with white stripe,a black, and brown.

2nd-If bypassing cant be done, how much can I expect to pay for a new switch and keys at the dealership or if I have the year and model can they just make me a new key for it?

What I did for a 96-98 Xplorer, should be the same key switch wiring.

Back track the 4 wires from the key switch. Pull and tape the Open/Run wires from the circuit board, Black and Brown.

Make a spade connector shorting wire, about 3" to 4" in length and short out the Closed/Run side of the wiring on the circuit board Red to Red/black connectors where the key switch wires where.

The key switch wiring is now completely pulled from the circuit board, but wired as if it is turned ON.

To stop the engine, I used the left side handlebar Off/Run switch. Note, if left on after the engine is turned off U will drain the battery down, so be sure to keep this switch in the Off position when not using the ATV.

If it isn't it still doesn't take a brain child to figure it out, only four wires on a older Polaris.

Going to a locksmith, just a little more trouble and still a person has accomplish what they needed to be done, a running ATV. Buying a new keyswitch, this doesn't prevent stolen quads either. I bet no where will a place ask to see a title before selling a keyswitch for an ATV.

Look at me, only like 33 posts, am I a new poster? I DID NOT STEAL MY QUADS. To me that is an insult just because someone is a new poster here. If one really looks, I joined here before most ppl have, back in the begining days of this forum, but still I do not post here often, but visit here awhole lot. But only having a few post, that is not right to be judging one by that means alone.

All I trying to do is to help or answer ?'s. To me, that is what a forums is all about. Sorry if I offended anyone here, I am off my soapbox now.

bro, chill out. he wasnt sayin he stole a quad just kuz he's a new poster. he said "the kid with the 3 posts".... just like if u were to say.... o look at that kid with the yellow hat, or sumthing like that. it was sumthing to identify him as. and if he did mean that its kuz he's a new poster then he could think that gahunter33 just joined the forums to find out how to hotwire a quad and then leave...... its possible u kno (not saying its tru). u dont gotta flip out on people like that.

gahunter33, welcome to the forums, hope its ur quad, lol

Maybe watzupdog has had some quads stolen before and is trying to prevent others getting theirs stolen. I didnt think it was offensive, and I hope gahunter33 wont either.
