Default Trouble with display

Last night I was plowing snow with my 2004 Sportsman 400 and I started to have trouble with my display panel. All of the icons started to light up then flash and then it would not show anything. When this happens I lose 4wd also. Any ideas?

I've had that happen to, but I am having a more than that happening too. The display is blank when i turn the key on unless i wiggle wires in the headlight top thing, to get to the point you might have a loose wire.

I would suspect that your battery is weak. Plowing drains the battery and the speedo will cut out at a higher voltage than the bike will die at.

Were your lights on at the time? Were they still working?

As for the AWD, the speedo controls it, so if you lose the speedo, you lose AWD.

Default Trouble with display

The display panel (rider info center) doesn’t light up at all now. I'm going to recharge the battery. I was looking at the troubleshooting section of my owner’s manual and it says about resetting the circuit breaker where is the breaker located. Lights and winch still work.

Default Trouble with display (Instrument cluster)

I took off my display panel (speedometer) and tried it out on a friends sportsman and it works fine.

What I have tried so far
1.Recharged battery
2.Wiggled wires
3.Cleaned all electrical connections
4. Tried display on another sportsman and it works fine

Try checking the fusible link that comes off the battery. This supplies power to the entire system. Minus the winch. Not sure if 400 has one but my 700 blew that and all was dead.

Now I’m really confused…. yesterday I started to trace the wires looking for the linkable fuse when I found a brown wire that was broken off. I could not find the other end it went to. The wire is coming from the large plug that goes in to my display (information cluster) panel. On the back of the plug the wires are numbered 1 to 16. The brown wire is number 8. And ideas.

Is the linkable fuse located near the battery is near the front of the quad?

The fusible link came right off the battery on mine. Kinda looks like a 18 Gage wire with a bump in it. Is supposed to be resettable (according to mechanic) but mine sure didn't even overnight so replaced with a bayonett type fuse. Do not know what the #8 brown wire would be for. Can't remember what color wire to pod was that fuse link was in.
