700 Twin vs 800 EFI
#1
I'm looking to buy. Sold my Yamaha Raptor 660 earlier this year. My wife has a Polaris 330. I've been torn between Honda reliability and US made and good looking Polaris. Looking to plow a little, but mainly use for trails. Live in Wisconsin but we spent a week ATVing in Colorado this past summer. We're trying to make it our family activity, have a 10 year-old son too.
I'm about to pull the trigger on the 700 twin based on price. But I like the looks of the 800, wheels, dual exhaust. The 800 EFI is around $1300 more. Just wondering from people who are more experienced, is the extra money worth it? I know my wife's 330 is cold blooded in the summer. I would imagine the EFI on the 800 would be nice when plowing in the winter, or climbing mountains on a trip--although we had good luck even climbing the fourteeners (14,000) mountains without adjusting fuelling.
Other than EFI and wheels, are there any other differences between the 700 twin and the 800 EFI in 2005?
Thanks in advance!

SliderJack: The 05 700 can be purchased in an EFI or Carb model. EFI is great in the winter and has better fuel economy. I haven’t driven the 700 but hear it is a great bike with just a little less low end grunt.

"Honda reliability" means nothing these days, look over at the Honda forum, transmission problems, carb problems engine problems, they are no different than any other manufacturer. Personally I don't think there is a machine out there worth it's price, but they know we want 'em so they keep making "disposible" machines for us. You are better off to chose a machine for its features, appearance and price, brand doesn't matter, stay away from the first year of any model.

I just purchased a 05 700 EFI and i love it. I havent riden the 800 but i couldnt imagine it could be much more powerful than mine. I garuntee that the 700 could do anything that you wanted it to do (other than outrun the 800). I have 2 buddies with Honda 500's. They both told me not to buy a polaris and that i should get a honda but after i let them ride it, they both shook my hand and told me that i made a good choice and that it was a good thing I didnt listen to them.

you know the old saying. theres no replacement for displacement. that being said if you dont care about having the faster or bigger wheeler then im sure the 700 would do anything you want too. i beleave you get the same 3 yr extended warr. and the 0% until 2007 w/ the 700 as the 800 if you buy before the 31st. i myself like having the biggest and dual exhaust,if was worth it too me for the 800. and yes the efi is way better then the carb, like my 500 was in cold weather. efi starts and runs w/ no problems. just my 2 cents
