I'm a proud new owner of a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 400 and was looking to get some info on being a new ATV owner. I've looked through the forums and haven't seen any posts about the 2005 sportsman 400. I bought it in Oct. of 05 and have only drove it a couple of times. During deer season was the most driving i've done on it, and occasionally I smelt something burning. I wasn't sure if it was the "new" burning off of it or what. I also noticed when trying to put it on the back of my truck I wouldn't drive up the ramps. After rolling off of it a few times and finally getting it up there i noticed I had it in High gear. I guess that's why it struggled to get up the ramps. Any thoughts on that? Also, as far as maintenance what should be doing for it. It only has about 3 hours on it right now.

You will enjoy your 400.
As far as that putrid smell, you probably smoked the belt.
Just replace it and try not to forget to put it in Low when pulling, climbing steep inclines ect.
Have a good one
